Cape Verde

Cabo Verde, 10 islets in the Atlantic

Close to the Senegalese shores, the Cape Verde archipelago is a mix of the Portuguese and Creole culture. Colonised in the early 15th century by Portugal, the island became independent in 1975. Depending on the islands you can find a variety of different landscapes and cultural influences. Once an important stop in the Triangular trade and later exchanges with the New world, it’s development and economy plummeted at the opening of the Suez Canal.

It is now a developing eco-friendly tourist destination, thanks to its incredibly diverse scenery, culture and many aquatic activities, but also thanks to the sheer beauty of these islands.

Santo Antao

Santo Antao is the hiker’s island thanks to its steep mountainous landscape. Hike up to the Poco da Coroa volcanic mountain, to reach the summit at nearly 2000 metres above sea level to marvel the lunar landscape of this area of the island.

In the many valleys of this island have profuse vegetation that give this radiant green colour to the scenery.

Sao Vicente

Sao Vicente, with its desert pavements, craters and oasis is a beautiful small island of Cabo Verde. It is also the second most populated island, thanks to Mindelo, the cultural capital city of Cape Verde. Mindelo is indeed a city that has developed during the domination of the Portuguese and is a cultural hub between the Occidental, South American and the African Creole culture. Enjoy walking through the multicoloured streets of this city, birthplace of the late Ceseria Evora, the country’s most famous singer.

Santiago, the creole island

The biggest and most populated island of the country, where is located Praia. This island is like a small recap of all the islands: you can find many beautiful sandy beaches, high mountains with the likes of the Pico Antonia and steep valleys with lush vegetation and terraced pastures where sugar canes, manioc, corn and banana trees are produced.

Fogo, the volcanic island

The Pico do Fogo, is a volcano that rises to 2800 metres above sea level, is still an active volcano which last erupted in 2015. Because of the height of the volcano, several climates can be observed on the island. On the flanks of the volcano, many tranquil villages can be visited. The northern part of the island is where eucalyptus, coffee and orange trees grow.

The large crater of this volcano harbours a unique and lunar landscape !

And 6 other unique islands are part of this archipelago !
